April 1, 1981 Park Board Minutes Page 5
B. Basic Industries Donation (Continued).
Gunderman asked if we should wait-with the two companies and .make
them donors to a foundation..
Dahl felt there should be a running list of things that could be
done with donation money.
Solberg felt it was a good idea.
Dahl-felt it was not necessary to wait to use the money.
Van Hatten agreed.
Anderson said what whould probably be done is a big promotional
campaign to residences and. businesses. By the time you wait. for
contracts, it could be 6 months or more.
Gunderman said that we could use these two donations as an opener
to the program.
Van Hatten asked where the idea of the spacenet came from..
Anderson stated it was a specialized piece of equipment we wouldn't
normally buy. The idea is to put it at the beach.
Gunderman asked about vandalism-.
Anderson stated the-firm is noted for vandal proof equipment. The
spacenet would cost .approximately $1,800.
Dahl asked-what an exerglide was.
Anderson 'said it is a swing but instead of chain and seat, it has.
arms for pull and-push. Cost is $500-$4,000 depending on size.
Grimshaw and Johnson wondered if the money could be used for purchase
of :things we plan to buy in the future.
Anderson said -the .gifts. have previously been used for something we
wouldn't normally purchase..
Carlson said. the donators would-probably expect their gift to be
used rather soon. If'a foundation was set up', they would understand
that it may not be used. immediately.
Solberg said the firms should be-given clot of publicity.
Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Solberg, to purchase a spacenet
with the Basic Industries gift of $2,000.
Grimshaw stated he has a problem with it. It looks dangerous.
Anderson said the danger is rather .modest..
Grimshaw was afraid it may draw drinking groups..
Motion passed. Grimshaw and Johnson naye.
