September 3, 1980 Park Board Minutes
Page 3
Dahl. asked the distance between the southwest corner on 5th and 16th.
Anderson said about 5O feet..
Resident. Har.cus, 1620 Sioux,: asked° why the Park Board was in favor
of the dual. entrance/exit. It would be more costly, traffic problem
and 1.50 residents signed a petition against it. The: Park Board should
be looking for ways. to save-money and use it toward Long Lake..
Fritz Harcus, 16.20 Sioux, stated the reason this all cam up again is
because the Park Board feels a single entrance is a traffic problem.
She feels a dual entrance/exit would be a problem. 93 cars .have been.
counted in the lot on a busy day.
Darle Sylvester, 1619 5th St. NW, stated pictures .had been submitted
to the Park Board showing the parking-lot at Hansen and the cars
parked along the street.
Evelyn Murlowski, 1897 Sioux Blvd., asked how close the new entrance
will be to the-existing road...
Anderson said anywhere from 50 .feet to mid-point of the block.
Proper stated there is 100 feet between center lines on the dual en-
trance/exit drawing. It is the same elevation as the present which
is about a 5 foot drop. Plan B is about a 9 foot drop. Dual entrance/
exit drawing shows about 100 feet from the street to the actual parking
area.
Carol Hansen, Sioux Blvd.., asked what the cost is for. each of the
proposed parking lots.
Proper stated that he did not have current costs but last year he be-
lieved there was not much difference ..between the two.
Carol. stated she wanted an estimate on how much the project would cost.
Proper. stated he did not know...
Richard Mohr, 17th, stated he has .cut. grass on the. hillside. by the
entrance during his employment with the City and feels the hillside is
not. stable enough for a driveway.
Sue Brugler, 1762 Sioux, asked what the width difference was between
5th and 16th
Another resident responded about l5 ft.
Sue said there is no way you can-park on 16th and handle two-cars
moving as .well. as some parked.
Sylvester reminded .Van Hatten that he participated in the main motion
to accept the single entrance and asked what changed his mind.
Van.Hatten stated he felt it. is important to keep all alternative open.
As far as cars parked on 16th, there can be "No Parking" signs posted.
It .may not. be the most desirable but it is a solution. As far as the
drop from the street, it isn't as far. as it appears. As Les~.stated,
5 or 6 feet at the most,
