September 3.,.1980 Park Board Minutes
Page- 6
Anderson said the plan could be changed to include mare cars.
Johnson stated he has always favored a dual entrance/exit .because
of safety.
Carlson asked why~Johnson believed a dual.entrance/exit. would. be safer.
Johnson said it would slow down traffic coming
wouldn't have as much congestion, going from a
street. There is a comparable park at Arden H
exit and it is a total zoo. He is thinking of
City as a whole. He feels it should go to the
decision and let the Council decide.
into the park and
.wider to narrower
ills with one entrance/
what is best-for the
Council as a Alit
Dahl feels a motion should be made first and if it's not approved,
then send to the Council.
Solberg agreed with Dahl..
A resident said a stop sign would do the same thing as moving the
entrance.
A resident said if speed. bumps were put in you could control traffic
that way.
Mohr stated the hill may be dangerous especially in the winter if a
car was coming down and a child going up.
Sylvester stated that. with. the exception of Freedom Park, all parks
in New Brighton are single entrance.
Betz, 7th St., asked if 90 parking spaces would be sufficient. Is
New Brighton going to grow - if so maybe we should have more spaces
and. enlarge the lot to the east.
Anderson said New Brighton is adding more households which may mean
more cars but he believes 90 cars is adequate. The less blacktop
the better - he prefers seeing grass in the parks.
A resident. stated that if plan A is considered with only 75 .car spaces,
the overlow will be on 16th.
Carlson asked if there was a way°to create a turn around in plan C
as in plan A so people. would not have to drive all. the ~vay through
the parking lot.
Anderson said it could be done but parking spaces may be lost.
Carlson asked Proper if he feels the dual entrance/exit would be
more. or less safe than. the single.
Proper said there isn't much that hasn't already been said but he
feels the crossing-over on a single entrance is dangerous. He feels
the .dual entrance/exit is safer.
Johnson asked what Anderson's feelings were.
