>September 3, 1980 Park Board Minutes
Page 8
Dahl asked for a review of the proposed trail system in the. park.
Anderson said the southern trails .would be asphalt. -They follow
the road along the soccer-field near 4th, go by the building and.
would all be lighted and asphalt. The trail. would be a combined
bike/walk path and be striped.
The .trail around the lake would be aglime. It would be a passive
trail for walkers --not bikers.. I would be narrow. and inexpensive.
Dahl asked if .there would be a trail from 14th.
Anderson said yes.
Grimshaw asked if there were still plans for parking area ~.t~~he
south end of Hansen.
Anderson said yes, it is in the CIP.
Gunderman opened the discussion to residents.
Mohr did. not feel it would be feasible to have a path...r_ on the east
side because the area is .too soft, the aglime would not hold,
Anderson said places could be found where the aglime would stay.
Harcus stated he liked the plan.
A resident asked when the soccer field will be-done.
Anderson said one is done and should be playable next .year.
Benke asked if there was justification for the lighting of the walk
way at the southern end of the park.
Anderson stated it is not intended that the entire area. be lit but
mainly the woods area. Would like people to be able to walk through
the park from 5th Street to County Road E and from 5th Street to
4th Street.. Cost would be approximately $10,000 with. l2-15 foot poles
at about 150-200 foot intervals.
Benke felt that estimate may be low.
Hogan stated it all depends on the quality but it could be done for
about $10,000.
Benke asked-who would get use of the lights; hikers, joggers, skaters?
Anderson said all of them.
Mohr asked if vandalism was considered.
Anderson stated the department.. has had good. luck with the vandal:-proof
fictures.
Harcus asked if .the free skating area would be lighted.
Anderson said yes.
