' July 2, 1980 Park Board Minutes Page 2 Anderson presented 4 different proposals for the Park Board to consider. The first drawing showed a widened entrance with no parking signs posted on both sides of the street. Speed bumps and a curved driveway with berm and sidewalk would be installed. There should be room for about 60 cars. Free skating stays in its present position. .There are blacktop trails proposed and also foot trails. The blacktop trails will be .lighted. A picnic pavilion is needed for small groups of about 60. There is also a hard surface area-near the tennis courts. The second drawing shows the free skating and picnic areas switched. Resident Partyka said the free skating area was tried there (east of the shelter) before and it didn't work. It's a bad area. Anderson said the .area would have to be regraded. Hansen Park area resident. Gregg Harcus, 1620 Sioux Blvd., stated he does not object to free skating where it is. He stated he lives directly across the street and it doesn't bother him at all. He asked if the area could be seeded and used for soccer. Anderson said yes it could be used for practice soccer. In the third drawing the parking lot comes in from 16th, mid-block.. The lot is left as is except the curved entrance. Anderson stated he likes this entrance the best. Resident Partyka stated concern that the buses may not be able to make the turn into the parking lot. Anderson felt the buses would not have a problem. Resident Harcus said he doesn't feel the present entrance is a safety hazard. He personally doesn`t like the entrance from 16th. Having-the entrance mid-block may encourage driving on private .lots. Hansen Park area resident Dar1e Sylvester, 1619 5th St. N.W., stated that 16th Street is too narrow to accomodate traffic safely.. People will be shaving the corners .and will have a hard time seeing kids coming into the parka Van Hatten suggested. no parking be posted on 16th Street. Gunderman commented that would not be fair to-the people living on 16th if they have company. Johnson said the no parking signs would only be needed on the east side.
