July 2, 1980 Park Board Minutes Page 4
Negative Comments
-Free skating doesn't look good near entrance
Johnson feels it could be-seeded and with the berm in and a
few more trees as border over the berm it would look fine.
FREE SKATING EAST OF SHELTER/PICNIC ON WEST END
Pn~itivr~
-Nicer looking, less distance to carry a picnic basket
Negative
-Poor soil conditions for skating
-Higher development. cost
-Higher future°maintenance cost (.potential regrading costs)
-Most residents object to the plan
PARKING ENTRANCE
Johnson favors mid-block entrance and a north side exit.
Feels they should be narrower rather than widening them with
one way travel on both.
PLAY AREA
No reaction.- ok as presented
Gunderman felt the free skating should not be moved because of
the soil conditions.- It was tried previously and it didn't
work. It is not an alternative as-far as he's concerned..
Likes the dual purpose of skating in the 'winter and soccer field
in the summer. Feels it is a disservice to the little ones if
the skating rink is too far from the shelter building and also
inconvenient dropping off and picking up kids if it is too far
from the parking area. Doesn't like the idea of a divider in
the parking lot. Not sure. of its purpose and would cost alot
of money. Would like to see the entrance signed and speed
bumps put in. If".the entrance and the exit were the same area he
would. rather leave the entrance where it is rather than move it
mid-block. Response from residents previously, regarding the
double entrance, was negative. He felt it wouldn't be all that
earth shaking if the sign-had to be moved.
Anderson said he doesn"t want to move the sign or take any trees
out. If we go with the current entrance he recommends we-don't
go the traditional 50 feet or whatever we normally put in for
an entrance road. Regulate parking on both sides rather than
move the sign or cut trees down.
Van Hatten said he helped. put the sign in and it's there. It
would be difficult to move.
