1981 (Continued) -4- 8) RENOVATE PLAY AREA SUNNY SQUARE $20,000.00 The objective of this project is to renovate the deteriorating play area and provide a safer and more enjoyable area for children to play. Some of the original construction was faulty and a substantial effort will be required to correct the present deficiencies. There is additional land to the east of the existing area that could be utilized, some existing equipment would be moved and some new required, however, the bulk of the money would be spent on grading, fencing, timbers, sand, etc. 9) PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT $10,000.00/Neighborhood Facilities The objective of this project is to upgrade the quality and quantity of playground equipment at all parks in the city. 10) PICNIC PAVILION HANSEN PARK $20,000.00 The objective of this project is to improve group picnic facilities at Hansen Park. Hansen is the only park in New Brighton's systems that has the capacity for picnic groups of 50 - 100. The facilities for groups is at best marginal and the entire park system would be greatly enhanced by this addition. There is a need for a facility of this type in Hansen Park. Most of the money would be spent for the shelter, however, a portion would be needed for additional grills, tables, etc. 11) 1982 LIGHT ATHLETIC FACILITIES $60,000.00/Community Facilities The objective of this two year project, $60,000.00 each in 1982 and 1983, is to light existing athletic areas in city parks. The intent of this action is to expand opportunities for adults to participate in athletic events after working hours. Staff supports one year at $60,000.00. 12) PARK SIGNING $3,000.00/Neighborhood Facilities The objective of this project is to further upgrade the signing of parks in the city. Staff does not support this project.
