22
launch a.nd that end of it, we do not even know on the Park Board what's
going to happen But the rest of the Plan, we've spent time, talked to
people in different parts of the City, a.ll of us represent different parts.
And our answers have been pretty much what you see on the Plan and what~~o~~~~~
}~~~~g{ w've heard from people that they would like to see in it. I'd like to
recommend that that we approve it as a Long Lake Regional Park with what's
going into it and I think this takes up other people's ~.hought throughout the
City , not just one area that you`ve heard from.
JS Is there further comment? Yes.
Ernie Gustafson, I live at 225 County Road I, not in New Brighton, but in
Moundsview. Now if you're talking about Regional Park, if you`re talking
about any other extravagant use of this parkland then you're also talking
about taxes that come from not just N B a.nd ta:t payers in N B you're talking
about taxpayers all over Ramsey Cty. And maybe from the Metropolitan Gov't
You're talking about getting # 3 million $ from the I~Ietrop govt to finance
this here, that makes it become a regional, so I have a_ right to talk in, a.s
just myself but ~~ sorta represent someone out side NB. Now I've been
wondring if you're gonna talk aabout, I think, T don't remember what it was
that you paid for this piece of ground in the first place from Joe Hipp
but I, a.s I remember, is 3,~ years ago and it wa.s in the neighborhood of
1 million or 12 million dollars. you paid for that. Now you're talking about
getting 3 million from the Metropolitan Council and that isn't come outa the
Pacific ocean or the Atlantic Ocean or from the sky that comes from everybody's
pocket books. We're already hit with high taxes and snore and more and more
from all this liberalism. This sounds like highly liberalism that you're
talkin here. I'm a, a , a, a. conservative. I just don't go along with all
this here high cost of liberalism a,nd it looks to me like what we're ordering
here is we're trying to buy a. cadilla.c when probably all we can afford from
what our taxes are already is a. bicycle.
Laughter, applause.
Another comment I would like to make.is that I was wondering how many extra
police you'd have to hire in New Brighton here to police this thisng. Gentleman
here said that they've spent $2000 on Joe Hipp's house to try to maintain it
and guard it from the vanda.lisms ~~~,~~~~~~ but in just a short weeks the
vandalists was in there and tore it apart with crow bars. If we put more, the
morecostly buildings, the more police you're gonna have to have to keep
these vandalists out from tearing the place apart again. Xou've already
had the experience in N B because they've already been in other parks of
yours and vandalized ah there's no end to it. You're gonna have 10 times
the trouble here in this park unless you hire probably double, triple, quadriple
your police force.
Applause
J~ I guess with regard to that I just might state that the City police a.re
already patroling the area, and in fact do go back in there regularly. There
would of course, I think, be a need for increased patroling but Ramsey County
also has a. Park patrol which would be assisting in that area. Yes Roger.
RW: Mr. Mayor, I don't think I need to get up in front of the microphone. I
think everybody can hear me. In regard to the n~xmber-ef- mem~ier of the Park
Board who just spoke saying that they took into consideration all of the people
in the City of New Brighton, in putting this program together, I guess I would
say to you that everyone knows that, or if they dont, that our Park Board was
commended nationally, I think they're a fine group. However, T think that we
