Mr. Dahle further noted <br />that the residents present had the concern whether a golf course/ <br />recreation area is to be retained or is developed in a respectable <br />single-family manner. <br />Chairman Brown asked how long the golf course had been in operation. <br />Mr. Dahle indicated that the golf course was first open for play <br />in 1969. <br />Chairman Brown asked how many rounds were played per year. <br />Mr. Dahle noted that approximately 35,000 rounds were played last <br />year. <br />Chairman Brown asked Mr. Dahle what the profit point was. <br />Mr. Dahle replied that he does not want to continue as a private <br />owner of a golf course which has 35,000 rounds played per year. <br />• Commissioner Doyle noted that Mr. Dahle had indicated previously <br />that there was some concern that the course might become a public <br />nuisance. Doyle asked Mr. Dahle if this had become a problem. <br />Mr. Dahle replied that they have not had such a problem but that <br />they had moved some tees and greens for safety reasons.. <br />Council Representative Fisher indicated that whether or not .the <br />City could purchase the golf course is a matter of economics. <br />Councilman Fisher noted that reports were prepared in 1974 regarding <br />the City operating the golf course. <br />Chairman Brown stated that he remembered the reports indicated that <br />the City simply could not afford to purchase the property. <br />Commissioner Doyle asked Mr. Dahle if he had developed the property <br />around the golf course. <br />Mr. Dahle replied that he had. <br />Mr. Ken Johnson, 20th Ave., stated that he would like to see the <br />golf course retained. Mr. Johnson stated if the City did purchase <br />the course, they may not be able to retire the debt but could meet <br />the interest costs. Mr. Johnson also stated that the City could <br />always sell the land, and perhaps, at a profit. <br />
