<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />December 23, 1986 <br /> <br />Announcements and Updates, continued <br /> <br />Benke further advised that staff is now working on arrangements <br />for a presentation ceremony where we will receive official certi- <br />ficates; and indicated the designation followed many years of <br />hard work by staff, advisory groups, etc. <br /> <br />Gunderman asked if the Star City designation can be combined <br />with signs; Benke deferred to staff to take every opportunity to <br />advertise it, noting the State may be doing something special <br />because we are the 50th Star City. <br /> <br />Brandt congratulated Mayor Benke and all those who have worked <br />on the program so diligently and so long for their good work and <br />for their good luck. <br /> <br />Benke noted the next step will be additional strategic marketing, <br />planning, etc. and is looking forward to 1987. <br /> <br />Gunderman reported the Citizen study Committee discussed the up- <br />coming Town Hall Meeting and inquired about how the agenda is <br />set; Benke indicated the Committee recommends an agenda which is <br />reviewed by both department heads and council. <br /> <br />Benke suggested the Committee discuss with the Chamber of Commerce <br />the opportunity for the Chamber to be agenda to provide an update <br />report of ideas coming out of the brainstorming session. <br /> <br />Gunderman stated some discussion centered around having the City <br />Hall dedication at that time, as well as Star City and Centennial <br />promotion. <br /> <br />Benke felt the City Hall dedication should be done when as much <br />new furniture, which is due April 1. 1987, is in place as <br />possible; noted the question had also been raised of whether or <br />not the Town Hall Meeting should be held in the Chambers this <br />year; and felt that because the Star City and Centennial are <br />both major events they perhaps could be other "main" events. <br /> <br />Sinda stated it would be worthwhile for the Citizen Study Commit- <br />tee to work with the Centennial Committee to coordinate events. <br /> <br />Gunderman stated the Committee also spend time discussing a mar- <br />keting plan and recognition. <br /> <br />For the Centennial Commission, Gunderman stated the Rotary Club <br />is putting together a calendar with advertising space; and felt <br />it would be appropriate for the council contribute money to pro- <br />mote a special greeting on the Centennial Year. <br /> <br />Benke asked if the Commission is planning on updating the <br />council; Williams stated it hadn't been discussed but feels it <br />would be appropriate; Gunderman stated he will have Judy Goepel, <br />Centennial Commission Coordinator, bring council up to date in <br />January. <br /> <br />Page Eight <br /> <br />Town Hall Meeting <br />Plans <br /> <br />Centennial <br />
