I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
December 9, 1986

Council Business, continued

Berger indicated the location for the opening of bids would be
at city hall, rather than at Spaceplan Corporation's office.

With regard to the specifications for the furnishings for city
hall, Benke asked about amenities in the large conference room;
Sinda indicated a large white board/tack unit was included.

Motion by Schmidt, seconded by Gunderman, to APPROVE THE NEW
BRIGHTON CITY HALL FURNISHINGS SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZE
STAFF TO PUBLISH A PUBLIC NOTICE.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

John Risdall and Jim Senden, members of the New Brighton Chamber
of Commerce summarized the brainstorming done at the Chamber's
November 22, 1986, Community Workshop; both felt the workshop
was attended by a good cross-section of the community and felt
the attendance and results surpassed their expectations,

Send en explained that the next step will be to draft an action
plan on each issue; indicated not too many issues were surfaced
of which the Chamber was not already aware, but it was interest-
ing that the ideas were verbalized and prioritized. Following a
meeting of the Chamber's Government Affairs Committee, it was
decided that the first priority would be the establishment of a
Leaders Club.

Benke noted that many issues raised are currently being
addressed, which highlights the need to try harder to communicate
to the leaders in the community; and believes the timing of the
workshop was excellent (in conjuction with Team Building in
January, Town Hall Meeting in Spring, and budgeting during the
summer) and would like to see it continue in late Fall.

Gunderman felt the workshop was very well done and very well run;
looking at all of the issues and items, a Leaders Club would pro-
vide the framework for all other issues and believes council, as
individuals and collectively, should help provide resources to
help make it happen.

Schmidt, not having attended the meeting, also felt the need for
better communication between the city and the community and
believed a Leaders Club would get information flowing both ways.

Williams commended the Chamber on having the foresight for the
workshop and indicated having one list for everyone to work from
is a big advantage.

Risdall indicated the list could be the start of more lists which
could be derived from other Chamber members, an article in the
city's newsletter seeking other issues, etc. Risdall further
indicated the goal of the Chamber is to work on one issue per
month through the Centennial year.

Page Nine

Specifications:
City Hall Furnish-
ishings
Report 86-317

Chamber of Commerce's
"Brainstorming"
Workshop
Report 86-318
