PARKS
The Board was presented a recommendation for the further development of
Hansen Park. Included in the recommendation were a system of walk paths
based on existing traffic patterns, a play area for tots north of the
tennis courts to serve the neighborhoods on the east and west side of
the park, a play area in the picnic area at the south end of the park to
service the neighborhood south of the park, extending the size of the
free skating area, and 2 additional ball diamonds of regulation softball
size in the area of the park near 4th street and 12th Avenue N. W.
Gunderman asked if these diamonds would be lighted and if a football
field would be included. It was explained that it would be attempted
to orient the diamonds to facilitate lighting both of them at a reduced
cost and that a football field could be laid in the area although the
arrangement of the light standards would have an effect on this aspect
of the plan.
Sherlock asked if a play area was necessary near the tennis courts. He
stated that he felt more tennis courts were important. It was noted
that the play areas were to provide activities for smaller children in
line with the cradle-to-grave philosophy and that the four courts at
Hansen and two courts at Highview should be sufficient to serve the area.
