Park Board ting ~ 3
November 24 970
A part of such a system should be a community or recreation center
because it is a people-oriented facility. The logical location for
this building would be Hansen Park according to Brauer.
Barnhill moved that Brauer and Associates in cooperation with the
Park and Recreation Department develop time and cost estimates for
a system analysis study with options to include work to be done by
the Village Planning Consultant and Park and Recreation Department.
Dahl second - motion carried.
Sherlock moved that a modification of the platting ordinance be
explored to ensure that recreation and open space are provided for
in multiple developments.
Dahl second - motion carried
Hagemeyer moved that the possibility of establishing an ordinance
calling for land dedication or financial contribution by developers
to the Park system based on the share-buying concept be considered.
Smith second - motion carried
The above information was requested to be available at the regular
Park-,Board meeting in January, 1971.
Permanent Shelter at Hansen Park
Art Dickey of Arthur Dickey and Associates, architects, appeared to
discuss the permanent shelter at Hansen Park. The main considerations
involved are the location and size of the building and the timing of
construction. Sherlock stated that based on trends toward people -
centered facilities, he was in favor of constructing the first phase
of a community center. Hagemeyer and Dahl concurred. Smith asked
if the site would bear that large a structure. Dickey stated that
according to the soil borings he presently has that the site will
bear an 8000 square foot structure: He further stated that the
ground was spotty and became more solid moving toward the knoll.
Further borings would be taken before a final determination is made
according to Dickey. Smith recommended that the architect provide
figures on the maximum size building that could be placed on that
site.
Don Brauer suggested that the structure be thought of in terms of a
recreation center not a community center. Dahl stated that some
facility was needed to operate people-oriented programs. Gunderman
stated he was still unconvinced as to the iiklihood of that site
supporting a structure of that size. Barnhill replied that
quantitative information was needed before a decision could be made.
Barnhill moved to recommend to the Council that Arthur Dickey be
retained to provide cost and size estimates for a building to be
constructed at Hansen Park.
