If
the New Brighton Park Board has a job to do, especially if
it is one that needs to be done well, Ellen gets the call.
Ellen Dahl has served the community as a member of the
New Brighton League of Women Voters. She has been extensively
involved in the Lake Region Youth Hockey Association ,serving
as an elected commissioner and for two years"also was the
registration commissioner.
Ellen has served on the New Brighton Park Board from
1969 to the present. She has served as Vice Chairman since
1976. She has actively participated in every major task the
Park Board has undertaken during her tenure including develop-
ment of four new neighborhood parks, extensive re-conditioning
of six existing parks, development of a comprehensive park plan
for the city and chaired a sub-committee .of the Park Board. that
developed a master plan for a regional park in the city. In
addition, she has held a full time job and raised a family.
Ellen has the gifts of a keen intellect and a talent for
organization. She has the ability to cut through the rhetoric_
that often seems to be part of our lives and deal with issues.-in
a forthright and effective manner. Ellen serves as the Board's
unofficial historian and seems to never forget a promise that
was made, a policy that was set or a goal yet unattained. She
often functions as a "rudder" on the Board and has, during the
past thirteen years, been one of the most valuable members on
this Board.
I arl familiar with some previous recipients of this award
and feel that Ellen ranks in that class, she is truly an out-
standing citizen, a highly competent person and a professional
in the finest sense of the word.
Sincerely,
G- ~, ~-
Maurice H.
