Jacobson, Director of Public CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: No comments to supplement this report / ~;~ 1 Comments attached Recommendation: Approval of the grant contract with the Commissioner of Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Managertaent Legislative 1-iistory: Federal funds are provided by the United States Department of Homeland Security, through the 2005 Homeland Security Grant Program, Award Number 2005-GE-TS-0019, for the Citizen Corps Pragram. • Financiallmpact: The City will receive $1.1.,609.76 for training, equipment, and personnel costs associated with the -- Department of Public Safety's existing Citizen Carps programs, including Neighborhood Watch, Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT). This funding will supplement the department's $10,000 budget for crime prevention and community engagement efforts through public safety in New Brighton. Explanation: The State of Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management awarded the City of New Brighton a local grant to enhance our existing Citizen. Corps activities. The funds will. be utilized to obtain new equipment, provide training, and reimburse personnel costs associated. with the continued growth and maintenance of our community's successful Neighborhood Watch, Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) programs.
