March 15, 1982 Park Board Meeting
Page 2
Bensing read a third letter from the Historical Society requesting
that the stockyards area be preserved for at least one year to see
if it has any historical significance..
Motion by Olson, seconded by Solberg, to accept letter relating to
preservation of area to determine historical significance. Nloton
passed.
Pat Commers
1732 14th Ave. N.W.
Commers stated Donald Herbert had asked to have his letter read.,
Commers read the letter.
Commers also read a letter that Nito Quitevis, the American Water
Ski Association Director, wrote to Kim Elverum of the Water Surface
Use Management Committee expressing his concern regarding Long Lake.
Virginia Sande
1718 9th St. N.W.
Support Regional Park - she read letter from the League of Women.
Voters..
Motion by Dahl, seconded by Olson, to accept League of Women Voters
letter. Motion passed.
Gerald Bensing went over his "Alternate Plan" for Long Lake Park using
transparencies. The plan included maps, drawings and figures relating
to the use and development comparing both city development and county
development.
Larry Baker
1940 Serendipity-Court
In favor of regional park. Opposed to the permit sticker system. It
may create more of a problem. Has heard that .Long Lake side of the
park. is not a good side for development, but it has been developed
with homes. .Don't see the logic with wanting the area for the Historical
Society if you don't .want people coming from outside of New Brighton.
With the museumpeople would be coming from the metropolitan area.
Sue Brustman
1615 18th Ave. N.W..
At one time stated didn't expect. Long Lake Park to be developed in
my lifetime. Sometimes it seems as though it will never be developed
and at other times it seems real. Tt has been 15 years since the
people demanded the park. Any further delay is inexcusable. Have
no objection to a city park but it is not feasible. Agree with Mr.
Baker. If we have a good park, others will want to use it, .Suspect
that if those that want a city park, not regional, will end up with
no park for a long time.
