March 15, 1982 Park Board Minutes
Page 4
The new beach location is going to be more difficult to reach
than the existing beach. The present location seems closer to more_
people,=_If moved may be subject to fees. Concerned with manpower
and staffing. $2,800 litter and disposal• doesn't seem_to suffice to
pick. up after 7,000 people per .day. Concerned with promises in relation
to the budget.
Jim Senden
507 17th Ave. N.W.
Speak in favor of the regional park. Virginia Sande and Sue Brustman's
comments were very good. Congratulate the Park Board, City Council
and Met Council staff on working on this job. Think. the results are
very evident - the plan is very good. Meets the needs of the people
and protects the environment. Congratulations on the efforts of many
years. Feel it is an outstanding job and you. have .been. very patient.
It has been rough. Sooner or later a decision has to be made. A
longer delay is not appropriate. Urge the Park Board to approve the
plan. There is room for improvement but think the plan has been up graded
through the years with input from all sources.. It's better to go with
input from all the-years than last minute input. Thanks. Hope you
vote for approval.
Dan Knuth
2259 Rockstone Lane
His homesite is adjacent to Ramsey County-and the propsed trail site
of the park. Is in favor of the Regional Park. Feels the staff is
competent. The regional concept is the only way to go. .Saw that Pat.'
Commers and.. Marv... Cook were on .the Long Lake Study Committee.. Comment
was made that the group. was lead by Ramsey County. Have had conversa-
tions with Marv Cook and no one leads Marv_Cook. Have used the area
in its state, have cross country skiied - there is a danger because.
of snowmobiles. The area is being damaged by motor bikes. Needs to
be developed now. $2.6 million spent on .Long-Lake restoration; 50%
from federal.,. 4, state,. 4 local.. Major affect would be on .improvement
of water quality. It bothers me-that New Brighton residents are looking
at the park in an isolated way. Have shopped Rosedale, Fridley, Minneapo-
lis, Bloomington.'-Have dined in .Roseville, Minneapolis, St. .Paul. Swim
at Spring .Lake Park. Have made an effort to look at the individual
.people when going to these other places and they look like everyone in
this room. Not afraid to let people use the park. Use it now before
it deteriorates.
Dan Cable.
2036 29th .Ave. N.W.
Heard the comment that the people that live on the lake don't-use it.
That's their-disadvantage. In favor of the regional park as it stands.
