December 7, 1983 Park Board Minutes Page 7 <br />C. Wellness Program. <br />LeAnn Linder., Lifestyle Health Consultant, explained that <br />there are 5 areas in the Lifestyle Health Program. <br />1. Nutrition <br />2. Weight Control <br />3. Physical Exercise <br />4. Mental Health <br />5. Smoking/Chemicals <br />The purpose of the program is to get people. aware of their <br />health .and to encourage. and make significant changes toward <br />better health.. Programs are offered in the community with <br />families and there area variety of activities. Participants <br />set goals and objectives, and there is a reward and point <br />system. The Recreation Department offered a number of .classes <br />and this year a number of new classes have been offered such <br />as health appraisal., stress seminars/aerobics, nutrition <br />and swimming. <br />Anderson stated that typically wellness programs have been <br />business orientated. It is a pioneering attempt to get <br />the community involved. <br />LeAnn Linder stated that most business .operated programs <br />have a low compliance rate.. Our fees are low and participants <br />will be with family, friends and neighbors. <br />Gunderman said it sounds good, it's a need for many of us. <br />VI. Old Business <br />None <br />VII. Announcements <br />A. Metro Council EIS Reimbursement <br />Anderson said the. City has requested money from Met Council for <br />the fees incurred for the Long Lake transfer and attorney fees. <br />The City did get money for title work but EIS expenses were put <br />on hold.. Met Council was afraid they might be setting a prece- <br />dent but it appears the money will be granted,. <br />Anderson told the Park. Board thatthe Long Lake Homeowners <br />Association has filed "Notice of Issue:" which is relating <br />to whether it is legal to sell the park because of the. bond <br />issue. It could be 11 months or more before it comes into <br />court but it also could come earlier with the development <br />of the park this summer. <br />Anderson said that a letter has been written to .the Ramsey <br />County staff regarding the clean up of waste on-the .Long. <br />Lake park site... County staff has agreed to cleanup the <br />waste as part of the construction process,.: Ramsey County <br />taking the responsibility will make it much less complicated. <br />No action by the .Park Board is needed. <br />Van Hatten said the latest on the incinerator is that Met Council <br />does not need an EIS. <br />Meeting adjourned at 8;55 p.m, <br />
