5
Steam lines will be excavated to standard industry practices.. This means
. in Minnesota about 6 feet deep (below frost line). After the installs-
- tion of the steam lines, the excavation will be refilled and excess dirt
disposed of if need be. Regrading, if required, will be done around the
building, roadways and steamlines.
20. .Will the pro~eet require an appropriation of ground or surface waters?
_ No X Yes
An 80 percent steam condensate return rate has been assumed. Peak demand
for make-up water is 22 gallons per minute; average demand is estimated
at 12.5 gallons per minute. New Brighton's municipal system is one poten-
tial water supply source. There is also a developed high capacity well
on the 33-acre site. It is a 12-inch diameter well, 356 feet deep,
drawing from the Jordan aquifer.
21. Will the project affect:
a) Surface water quality (on or off the site)? No X Yes
b) Groundwater quality (on or off the site)? X No Yes
c) Groundwater levels in any wells (on or off
the site)? X No Yes.
Temporary degradation of surface .water will result from site excavation
and access road construction. Impacts should be controllable using
standard construction practices. Stormwater detention ponds are a part
of the site design and will provide long-term surface water management.
• 22. What type of waste water treatment will be used? X Municipal
On-site Other
Describe the type of treatment system and amount treated in gallons/
day. Indicate if pre-treatement measures will be used.
The muncipal sewer system will be extended to serve the plant. Most
wastes will be normal sanitary sewage. Daily volumes will be approxi-
mately 300 gallons. System capacity is more than adequate. No pretreat-
ment of wastewater is proposed.
23. Describe and.indieate on a site map the provisions to control stormwater
runoff. Include size and location of any retention basins and discharge
points.
Figure 8 shows proposed drainage following construction. The plan has
been given tentative approval by the Rice Creek Watershed District. A
retention pond on-iste will provide 2.2 acre-feet of runoff storage and
control maximum discharge to 21 efs. Surface water will ultimately
discharge to marshland adjacent to Rush Lake.
24. Will the project generate:
a) Air pollution? _ No X Yes
b) Dust? No X Yes
• c) Noise? No X Yes
d) Odors? X No Yes
