November 2, 1983 Minutes Page 2
Gunderman asked where the senior's program is headed.
Anderson said we took a step toward improving Senior's
Program. There is an extra $3,600 budgeted for `84.
Kelly Schultz will have her entire responsibility on
seniors. Want to offer seniors some non-club activities
increase trips, and have different activity groups. We
have an opportunity to touch more people without spending
alot of time. The groups can run themselves.
Gunderman asked how the gift book program is coming.
Anderson said the Police Department had received a Ski Doo
as a donation, donox,: did not want to be acknowledged.
Gunderman asked how joint ventures were going with other
communities .
Anderson said still working on playground program with summer
school but becoming complex. Swimming activities are coordinated
closely, and we are moving in that direction, but slowly.
Gunderman asked what Anderson is excited about for next
year.
Anderson responded the senior program and the playground
program tieing in with summer school and also another
agenda item; wellness.
V. New Business
A. Playground Equipment Purchase
Anderson explained he was in the process of taking quotes for
playground equipment at Hansen - the biggest ever put in
New Brighton. Went to one of four vendors and asked to design
a structure. Went to the other three vendors and asked .them
to come up with something similar. All vendors made their
presentation to other Park and Recreation .Directors and Anderson.
The directors. picked the best two, then went and looked at the
equipment we had purchased and asked the .best vendor to submit
his proposal for $15,000. The vendor's cost is $20{742 .but
is willing to give us the $14{298 cost because they can use
New Brighton's as a model for other communities to see.
Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Olson to approve the purchase
of playground equipment for Hansen Park..
Anderson said he will order in November and get to the council
for November 22nd. Delivery will be in the spring and we can
work on it in the spring and have completed about mid-May.
Motion passed.
