January 5, 1983 Park Board ..Minutes Page 4
The Park Board voted on who would be the representative from .the
• Park Board.
Dahl was selected.
Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Johnson, that Ellen Dahl be
appointed representative from the Park Board for the Long Lake
Advisory Board. Motion carried.
Dahl said she would like to reinforce the City Manager's letter
commending Maurie for his work on the Long Lake project.
Anderson said he would like to commend the Park Board for their
interest in the Long Lake Advisory Committee. It is quite a
committment, pleased to see so many .eager to take part.
C. Long Lake Park Development Options
If the city lost the lawsuit regarding. its right to sell the land
to Ramsey County, the city has a number of options. This ruling
would not affect the south side of the park... There is still a
possibility of developing the park as a regional park. We could
still have a regional park or develop some other kind of lake
access on the present beach area.
Gunderman said if the lawsuit appears to have a chance of success,
• residents in favor of the park should mobilize. The cost factor
and. long term ramifications should be put together and explained
to all residents.
Van Hatten suggested giving the L.L.I.A. another chance. to talk --
ask them what they really want.
Carlson said he totally disagrees. The Fark Board has tried to
include them in every step of the planning. Tried harder than
any government body. Maurie and Ken Simons have as good a park
plain as can be possible. It is far superior than he thought
possible..
D. Election of Officers
Motion by Dahly seconded by Johnson, to reappoint Gunderman as
Chairman of the Park Board. Motion carried.
Motion by Olson, seconded by Carlson., to reappoint Dahl as vice
chairman of-the Park Board. Motion carried.
VI. Old Business
A. Gifts Catalog
Anderson recommends using a gifts catalog similar to the. one used
• in St. Petersburg, Florida.
