December 4, 1985 Park Board Minutes Page 3
At Driftwood and Sunny Square no one showed up.
With the new senior facility going in by Meadow Wood we
may. want to change the flavor of the park to accommodate
older people.
Anderson said the tone of the meetings was generally favorable.
Concerns were minor. He was actually hoping for something
more substantial. Sent out letters to athletic associations
in early October requesting feedback and how we could serve
them better. Only one response was received from the base-
ball association (MVAA). Their concern was mainly maintenance.
Anderson said he was disappointed in not any more responses.
The Department gets occasional complaints and we gave them
an opportunity to respond and they did not.
Gunderman said that no response could be positive. If people
didn't respond, that would seem that they are generally
satisfied.
Anderson said he agreed but it would have been nice to have
their input. The comments we did receive are great. We
can do good P.R. by taking care of even the minor problems.
B. Land Purchase - Hidden Oaks
Anderson stated a proposal was received from the owner of
some property adjoining Hidden Oaks which he wants to sell to
the city as park land. A well house may be put on a portion
of the property. That would leave about half of the proposed
property for park use.
If the prperty is purchased the hockey rink can be reorintated
so the ice will not melt on the south end. The free skating
area can also be expanded. From a park view, it would be a
good move.
Anderson said he talked to the owner and mentioned the price
was too high. The owner responded that "you have to start
somewhere." The house on the property is old - it will be
moved.
Johnson asked what happened with the discussion at the last
Park Board meeting regarding condemnation of that property.
Anderson said the owner was not interested.
Anderson said the Park Board needs to make a recommendation to
the Council.
Seward said he is in favor of the purchase but the price is
too high.
Rose. felt the same.
Blomquist felt that aesthetically the purchase would be better.
