<br /> <br /> <br />The existing foundation remnants of several structures <br />that had been associated with the Twin City Stockyards <br />such as an ice house, pump house, water tower, round <br />house and turn table will be exposed, restored and/or <br />capped with concrete, and identified and explained by <br />self-guiding trailmarkers. A bituminous path connecting <br />the south segment of the site with the main body of the <br />park will pass by the remaining remnants. Permanent park <br />benches and picnic tables will be located throughout the <br />area. Parking for the area will be provided by the 150 <br />space beach parking lot. <br />d. Amendment Action: This "amendment action" proposes that a one acre <br />trackside area. of the park be designated as the location for the <br />siting of the historic Bulwer Junction -'New Brighton Depot which <br />is owned by the New Brighton Area Historical Society. <br />b. Amendment Justification: The historic depot, a rare example of an <br />intact 1880's waodframe railroad depot, would serve as a cultural. <br />center, educational tool and heritage repository which both com- <br />plements and supplements the typical recreation opportunities <br />provided by a regional park. (Relocation of the Depot to the ark <br />site was requested by the New Brighton Area Historical Society. <br />The cost of relocation, building restoration, immediate site develop- <br />ment, maintenance and operation will be borne by the New Brighton <br />Area Historical Society. <br />c. Facility Description <br />Long Lake - East Segment <br />Historical Depot__ (refer to attached revised development concept. <br />map and concept detail). <br /> <br />The Bulwer Junction/New Brighton Depot will be relocated from <br />its temporary storage site to a designated area within the park <br />which is~immediately adjacent to the Minnesota Transfer Railway <br />Company, mainline right-of-way southeast of the entrance road's <br />grade crossing of the railroad tracks. The one-story, seven <br />room, woodframe building (24' x 64') includes a waiting room, <br />freight room, ticket office and living quarters for the station <br />master. <br />-5- <br />
