Mullay, Program Manager, Clean Lakes Program, <br />The meeting was called in response to public concern over the <br />lack of boat launching facilities on Lang Lake. Lang Lake is <br />the focus of the Long Lake Chain of Lakes Improvement Project, <br />funded in 1976 by U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). <br />This project has received 51.6 million in Section 314 federal <br />grant funds. EPA and the Minnesota Pol.lutioti Control Agency <br />(MPCA) are very concerned about the issue of public access <br />because only publicly owned freshwater lakes are eligible for <br />Section 37.4 funding. 40 CFR Part 35.1605-3 defines a publicly <br />awned freshwater lake as: <br />A freshwater lake that offers public access to the <br />lake through publicly owned contiguous land so that <br />any person has the same opportunity to enjoy <br />non-consumptive privileges and benefits of the lake <br />as any other person. <br />Phone: 612/296-7223 <br />1935 West County Road 82, Roseville, Minnesota 55113-2785 <br />Regional Offices Duluth/erainerd/Detroit Lakes/Marshall/Rochester <br />Equal Opportunity Employer <br />
