November 5, 1986 Park Board Minutes
Page 4
Anderson said it is hard to place a dollar value on
how much vandalism we've had. Some of the vandalism
is hard to measure, for example, damage to trees.
We repair most of the damage in-house.
Anderson commented that some of the vandalism happens
in broad daylight.
Anderson said this issue came up because of the
vandalism to the play equipment at Pike Lake. Our
curfew would not apply to the schools.
Anderson said a ban on glass containers may be a good
idea because we have had serious problems with glass.
Kalina asked if there was any data showing that
vandalism is more prevalent during certain hours.
Anderson said no, there is no data like that.
Carlson said there is a curfew already in effect for
those under 16. Either 9:00 or 9:30pm.
Carlson said he was disappointed that the Police
Chief could not have recommended something to help
with the vandalism problem. A11 he said was that the
play equipment was in the wrong place.
Anderson said he agrees with the Police Chief. Not
that we did anything wrong, all of the play equipment
is prime location for vandalism.
Van Hatter said all the Police Chief is saying is that
there's nothing we can do.
Anderson said he think's that's true.
Carlson said we could donate something to the Police
reserves; put another car on duty.
Anderson said he didn't feel that was appropriate to
take out of our budget what the police are paid to do.
Seward said the reserves are looking for things to do.
We could ask them to watch the parks more closely.
Olson said there is no significant change in vandalism
over the past years. It just moves from park to park.
