July 2, 1986 Park Board Minutes
Page 6
Kalina asked if there could be something in the CIP for
Silver Oak.
Anderson asked her what she would like to see.
Kalina said the two things she is always approached about are
the tennis courts and lighted rink. Have had good comments
about grass cutting and improved play equipment. Would also
like to see a hard court area.
Anderson said the skating area had been maintained for about
5 or 6 years but discontinued last year when we went to main-
tain it and found no skate marks on it. Can't see putting
in lights if there is no building. There is no electrical
service in that area. We were given an estimate of about
$10,000 just to bring in electricity and the lights would
cost about the same.
Kalina said the people would like to see a free skating area.
Kalina asked about the tennis courts.
Anderson explained that the City and contractor have an agree-
ment that when the townhouses are built he will move the
tennis courts. No date was put on the contract as to a deadline.
The city attorney is looking into it.
Williams asked if the tennis courts are well maintained.
Anderson said reasonably. The area around the courts, owned
by the contractor is a mess, with debris all over. There are
some areas on the courts where cracks are starting to open up.
The parking is inadequate but most people walk. Don't feel
it's bad enough for the city to go out on a limb and do it on
their own.
Williams asked if the owner could be asked to clean up the area.
Anderson said he has been asked on several occasions.
Eichers said if he maintains the area his taxes may go up.
Anderson said no - the other side is maintained.
Kalina said there was a list that the residents had compiled.
Anderson said he thought the hardcourt would be a good idea.
The lighted rink and the shelter were the only other things
he could remember that were on the list.
