June 4, 1986 Park Board Mintues
Page 4
Rose asked if the hiking trails will go in this year..
Anderson said no, that's one of his frustrations. .Would like
hiking trails as high priority. Ken Simons doesn't plan on
working on any development until fall. The money is available
July 1st.
Carlson said. this is different than what Ken Simons told them
at the tour.
Anderson said trails are comparatively easy to prepare.
Van Hatten commented that if there are no trials, people may
make their own trails.
Anderson said yes, they probably will want to do something
other than swim.
Van batten asked if trails could be made by cutting grass.
Anderson said that would be difficult.
Blomquist said the kids cannot get to the park on their bikes.
Johnson said that was his concern also.
Anderson said there is no easement yet by the railroad tracks.
Johnson asked if Anderson's concern was for the whole trail
system or just the entrance.
Anderson said the New Brighton entry is important but the
whole trail system is important. New Brighton people are
the ones that will use the trail system the most.
Van Hatten asked if a temporary trail system could be put in.
Anderson said to do it from the south would be almost as much
work as a permanent one because of the easement process.
Carlson said without a trail system-there would be .liability
problems; people will go where they want to.
Anderson said all trails can't be done. If the Park Board
wants a trail, be specific as to which one.
Johnson said the Park Board sees an immediate need for trails
in the park and that is a high priority item.
Anderson said that may conclude with a circular trail to the
south.
Johnson there is an immediate need for an entrance trail from
the south side, and an immediate need for trails.
