Excerpt from Park Board Minutes (Continued) ,.Page 3 <br />Nelson thought .perhaps half of the street could betaken for <br />park, aril half for turn around area for St. John's parking. <br />Van Hatten said if any part of the street was taken out, it <br />would eliminate a~.l of the street parking. <br />Johnson asked if there wag a motion. <br />A resident from the audience commented that he has lived in <br />.the area for 40 years and has never seen too much traffic on <br />3rd Ave. He feels in the winter. it is rather hazardous because <br />at the intersection you cannot see the cross traffic coming.. <br />Would not Abject to the closing of 3rd Ave. It would be more <br />beneficial to the park. He walks in the area about two times <br />a day. He sees slot of people walking in that area and feels <br />the walkways would be used slot. <br />Van Hatten's concern about taking a poll was how to do it <br />without aloe of explanation. Would really have to be careful. <br />about how you asked the question. <br />Williams stated there. was a public hearing on the street re- <br />surfacing. There was some agreement to close 3rd Ave. After <br />that a petition against the -closing of 3rd Ave. <br />came about:• <br />Johnson said that. if the ball diamond was expanded there would <br />be more use and more games to watch. <br />Van Hatten asked if the ball diamond could be moved closer <br />to the street to make it bigger. <br />Midness said the backstop would then become inefficient. <br />Resident, Jerry Bensing, asked if St. John's had been advised <br />to what the street upgrading cost would be; what it would <br />be for the City and what it would be for St. John's. <br />Resident comment was that St. John's has plans for upgrading <br />the parking lot. <br />MOTION BY SEWARD, SECONDED BY OLSON, TO RECOMMEND PLAN #4 WITH THE <br />VACATING 3RD AVE. <br />Johnson .said he would like to see his earlier comment about <br />having another access behind the ball diamond added to motion. <br />Olson said the tot lot area with two separate age group areas <br />could be added too. <br />Seward said the residents like Plan #4 also. <br />Johnson said the residents had no opposition.to the pond. <br />Olson said yes, they preferred the. pond over the detention area. <br />Carlson asked if the school had been approached on the pond, <br />regarding safety. <br />
