Page Four <br />Advisory` Reorganization <br />Recommended Changes <br />The City Council will meet to discuss transitional issues of the proposed Parks, Recreation and Natural <br />Resources Committee prior to October 31, 1994. Specific issues to be resolved include combining <br />membership and expertise of the current Park Boazd and Environmental Quality Commission and identifying <br />the type of environmental issues the new committee will handle. <br />RECOMMENDED REORGANIZATION OF COMMITTEE STRUCTURE <br />The following outlines the general reorganization of the current municipal advisory committees. These <br />recommendations have evolved from the extensive discussions held by the Council and the ad hoc Reorganization <br />Committee. <br />Cable Advisory Committee: <br />The mission and overall purpose of the Cable Advisory Committee shall be expanded to include the responsibility of <br />participating in the development of a strategic plan for guiding the community on the technological front. This <br />participation would be shared with the Economic Development Commission. In prepazation for this expanded <br />mission, the Cable Advisory Committee and Economic Development Commission will arrange for a joint meefing <br />prior to October 31st to initiate a joint discussion for how to proceed with planning for investigating and focusing <br />on technology and telecommunications issues. <br />The expansion of the current Cable Advisory Commission's role is expected to be phased in over the course of the <br />next several years to allow for an organized growth to its already actively developing agenda pertaining to cable <br />issues and programs. <br />Economic Development Commission: <br />The Economic Development Commission, given its role as a conduit and liaison to New Brighton's <br />industrial/commercial sectors, will begin a joint participative effort with the Cable Advisory Committee as it pertains <br />to technological issues. <br />Ne additional specific changes to the current Economic Development Commission aze being proposed. <br />Planning Commission: <br />The Planning Commission shall assign a member from its existing membership to participate with Economic <br />Development Commission activities. <br />In order to provide itself opportunities for focusing on long-range planning matters, the Planning Commission shall <br />set aside two meetings per year for this purpose. These may be added to regulazly scheduled meetings if the agenda <br />is minimal, otherwise special meetings will need to be held. <br />The Planning Commission shall establish asub-committee from its membership to maintain an awazeness of housing <br />issues and to regularly report back to the Commission on related topics. The sub-committee may be comprised of <br />Planning Commission members, Council members, and other citizens who may bring a useful expertise or <br />perspective to the group. <br />
