Page Five <br />Advisory Reorganization <br />Recommended Changes <br />Parks Recreation and Natural Resources Commission: <br />This Commission is the existing Park Board which has been renamed to reflect its expanded mission and <br />responsibilities. The existing Pazk Board functions will be combined with current Environmental Quality <br />Commission functions and the EQC will then be disbanded. <br />~- <br />The oversight of the Family Service Center as a facility and center for recreational programs shall also reside with <br />this Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Commission. However, additional discussion is necessary to establish <br />a community-based network whose mission will be to maintain an awazeness of social issues within the community <br />and to recommend the development of .specific programs through the FSC, which will respond to the issues <br />identified. <br />Public Policv Commission: <br />The Citizen Study Committee shall be renamed to become the Public Policy Commission. This revised Commission <br />shall replace the existing Financial Policy Advisory Boazd, as well as serve as leadership development program <br />advisors. <br />Public Safety Commission: <br />This newly named Commission shall represent an expansion of the current Civil Service. Commission. This more <br />broad-based commission shall have responsibilities in dealing with safety issues impacting on the police and fire <br />departments as well as to review and consider matters pertaining to human rights issues and violations. Three <br />members of the Commission will serve as the statutory Civil Service Commission. Three members of the <br />Commission shall also be assigned to additional duties of serving within human rights functions as members of <br />regional human rights groups. <br />Staff is still considering alternative name options for this Commission to best reflect the broad-based nature and <br />efforts of this Commission to best to meet the municipal goal of "fostering safe cohesive neighborhoods". <br />Existing Committees to be Disbanded:_ <br />The following commissions shall cease to exist after January 1, 1995: <br />1. Human Rights Commission <br />2. Financial Policy Advisory Board <br />3. Environmental Quality Commission <br />Members of these boards/commissions will be encouraged and considered to express their interest during the <br />appointment process for becoming involved with the revised commission structure. <br />
