~i,ittle Lakes Little League-Fields Committee
A Proposal for the City of New Brighton
Little Lakes Little League views the City of New Brighton as a valuable, essential component of the LLLL system.
Along with its sister cities of Arden Hills, Mounds View, North Oaks, Shoreview and Vadnais Heights, New
Brighton provides ballfields for league play and practice. During the summer of 1993, LLLL used fields in New
Brighton at Pike Lake, Silver Oak, Highview, Sunnyside and Hanson Park. A total of 13 fields per week were
used on Monday through Friday with an occasional Saturday game for making up rain-outs.
Little Lakes Little League would like to make the following proposal to the Parks and Recreation Dept of the City
of New Brighton for a partnership in fields development. The following is a multi-year proposal designed to
upgrade several fields in New Brighton that can be used for a wide variety of children. of vanous ages and skill
levels. As with the proposals to the other cities in the LLLL system, this proposal includes acost-sharing
component that establishes the partnership between the League and the City.
Year #1. Little Lakes Little League would like to develop Totem Pole Park for little league play. Totem
Pole was selected because of several factors. Ample parking, playground for small children, good drainage, are
but a few of the positive aspects of the field. LLLL would like to provide funding for dugout fencing,
approximate cost, $1600.00. This fencing would have a 6 foot high field-side fence with a 4 foot high spectator
side fence. Two opening to the field side and one to the back side complete the dugout. The League would ask
- the City to move one of the benches from the first base line to the third base line to allow for the installation of
fencing around the third base bench and provide a hood for the backstop, approximate cost, $1500.00.. Totem
Pole field would be designated for American League, 11-12 year old, play.. The League will instruct its coaches
who use totem pole field that parking for-games should be on the West side (park side) of 9th Ave. and in the
designated parking lot adjoining the ball field.
Year #2. Little Lakes Little League would like to provide funding.for protective bench fencing at both
Sunnyside and Pike Lake fields.. Sunnyside would continue to be a 7r. Minor field (9-10 year olds) while Pike
lake would be designated an instructional league field (7-8 year olds). Approximate cost for the fencing,
$1400.00 The League would ask the City to excavate the inner infield at Totem Pole field following the close of
the 1994 season (early August), provide a topsoil base and provide grass for the ball diamond, approximate cost
of materials, $1000.00. The league would ask the City to use the recovered agri-lime from totem pole field to
top-dress the Sunnyside and Pike Lake fields.
Year #3.
