October 6, 1993 Park Board Minutes 3
A resident was concerned about the amount of things going into the
park.
Anderson said generally the more stuff that goes into the park, the
less crime. The more activity, the less vandalism and partying.
Resident Parviz said he wanted tennis courts. Tennis players are not
criminals. He admitted that there are tennis courts all around but for
those that can play only evenings or on weekends it is not easy to find
open courts. He stated he can drive and he is not concerned about
that but he would like his children to have a place to play that they
can safely get to. He also stated that this is a tiny little park and he
does not envision very many times when the parking lot would be
filled. He handed the Park Board a list of people who desire to see
tennis courts in the park.
A resident inquired who the west access was for, except those who
live there. There is no parking on that end.
Olson said it is to give those who live there access.
The resident said there is only about 1/2.dozen people that--will use
this access.
Anderson said that the Park Board and staff have to make decisions
for all possible users.
Resident David Ryden stated he has two children that will want to get
to the park. Right now they have to go through back yards to get
there. There has to be some access.
A resident stated the berm is the nicest area. Would like it to stay.
Resident Alan Johnson said they live on the corner. They did not
know the berm would be there. They were never told of the planned
parkway.
Resident Paul Lucas said he has a 4 year old and an 8 month old.
They need to have safe access. He understands that those living near
the path don't want it.
Resident Burleson said there is a need for a clear area marked to
identify it as an access. She objects to the 8 foot path.
Anderson said there are two reasons why an 8 foot path is suggested.
One is that equipment can do the path rather than doing it by hand.
The second reason is for safety. The standard path size is 8 feet.
