October 6, 1993 Park Board Minutes 5
Anderson said yes they would.
Resident Stuart said they have a hot tub. From on top of the berm
you can look into homes. Would like to have a limestone, natural-
looking path lined with mature trees. Could the path be angled?
Questioned why things are being squeezed in if it can't be regulation.
Anderson said yes, the path can be angled. There is no regulation for
soccer. This field would be used for younger kids.
A resident asked if the gravel path would be safe for kids to ride bikes
on.
Anderson said there is a gravel path from Mississippi St. to Silver Lake
Road - 8 feet wide. It takes about 2 years to compact. Most bikes
could handle it ok. Maybe not the touring bikes.
A resident asked if it is necessary to make the path 8 feet wide..
Anderson said it would be hard to convince me not to do it 8 feet
because of maintenance reasons. If it is a limestone path the grass
crows up along either side and it looks narrower.
Resident Thell asked if it was possible to put in evergreens along the
path.
Anderson said yes. We can put in nearly anything you want.
A resident asked if they would have input into the plantings before it
happens.
Anderson said the forester is extremely knowledgeable about what
plants will do well in particular soils. Rick will come up with a plan.
Resident Johnson asked if evergreens could be planted instead of
deciduous trees.
Anderson said we usually do deciduous because if evergreens die and
have to be taken out after several years, then the new little tree looks
awkward if it is in a bunch of taller ones.
A resident stated the pond is close to the park and will attract geese
and ducks. Will anything be done if they become a problem.
Anderson said we do not do anything for migratory geese and ducks
but if they are nesting and become a problem, we can hire some
organization to come in and ship them out.
A resident said if there is a choice between woodchips and gravel for a
path, he prefers wood chips.
