May 5, 1993 Park Board Minutes 3 <br />Anderson said he will send a memo out on Thursday with information <br />about the meeting. <br />Anderson listed some of the facilities that will be housed in the Family <br />Center. <br />Gymnasium, indoor playground, Park & Rec. Offices, Community <br />Room with Kitchen, classrooms, teen lounge, fitness area, locker <br />rooms, Physical. Therapist, Ramsey County, Copy room, employee <br />lunch room. <br />Ocet inquired if there would be a pool? <br />Anderson said probably not. It will be left for the future; an option for <br />a referendum. We are trying not to make decisions that will limit us <br />down the road. <br />Dave Childs mentioned that Shoreview's Community Center costs <br />about 1.2 million to run. North St. Paul about $100,000. Want to <br />have a design to be able to add. <br />Williams commented that he is prepared to go to the limit with this. <br />Want to do something worthwhile for the City. <br />Anderson stated that the Omnibus bill in the Senate has support and <br />grants will be available for cooperative multi-agency programs. <br />Northwest Youth and Family Services may be eligible for this grant <br />money. <br />Olson stated it is exciting. <br />Eichers and Kinzie agreed. <br />Jim O'Brien stated that at this point there is a lot of gelling information <br />together that will allow people to share space. <br />Dave Childs commented that the indoor play area will be the biggest in <br />the Metro area. 5,000 square feet, 30 feet high, using a soft surface. <br />Olson asked if a fee would be connected with this. Anderson stated <br />yes. <br />Dave Childs mentioned that a landscape architect will be hired to <br />coordinate all developments in the downtown area so they all fit <br />together. <br />Jim O'Brien said Maurie had commented that he would like to see the <br />site remain in its natural state. The west side would face the street <br />and would blend in with other developments. <br />
