June 3, 1992 Park Board Minutes 3
Burg said our season passes are cheap, in fact we may discontinue
them or raise rates. We cater to group tournaments. Have about 40
groups a year. Because of the increase in golfers, we are able to
increase the maintenance level. Greens mowed every day, instead of
previous policy of every other day. Every year we enlarge on tee.
Aerification and seeding is done once a month.
Johnson commented that his daughter worked at Brightwood Hills and
then applied at Town and Country Golf Course. She was showing the
guys how to use the equipment because she was so well trained. They
asked her to come back.
Burg said everybody learns everything here. I was given the
opportunity and want to give others the same opportunity.
Helgeson asked why advertising was done during the US Open if you
are already doing 38,000 rounds.
Burg stated we want to keep people coming back and also let some
know we are here. We spent 5400 on advertising over 5 months.
That's what we have in the budget.
VI. Old Business
A. 1993-97 CIP
Anderson said staff is in the process of working on the 5 year plan.
Helgeson asked where the Park and Rec. office would be if relocated
to City Hall.
Anderson said where the Ramsey County courts are now.
Childs said the courts are looking at a new site on Rice and 694 in
Shoreview.
Anderson said the City Hall site is smaller, but the Brightwood Hills
site is not handicap accessible. If we stayed at the present location
the clubhouse would be moved to the north and the P&R to the south
and storage would be upstairs.
Anderson commented that one thing we try to do each year with the
CIP is balance the cost so we are spending approximately the same
every year. 1993 is the exception. Feel the play equipment at
Driftwood should be done this year.
The Park Board discussed Driftwood Park. The planting would
probably be done in the spring. A meeting with the Wexford Heights
neighborhood residents would be held to find out their desires for the
park. Anderson stated he would check with Erny Mattila, City Planner,
to see how much the developer wil! be giving in park dedication money
and find out how that amount is determined.
