May 6, 1992 Park Board Minutes 4
5 year Plan
Anderson went over each item and briefly described it.
Trails, Freedom, Driftwood, Hidden Oaks -basically adding short
access pathways.
Swing & Pond aeration-Veterans -Knuth asked if the architect had
promised cleanliness of the pond. Anderson responded no. Knuth
asked if money from the Rice Creek Watershed District could be
obtained for this project. Anderson there is a slight possibility.
Pike Lake Acquisition -Land was purchased from Arnold Palmer.
5 1 /2 acres on the southwest corner of Pike Lake. There is a
heron. rookery there now - it is a very attractive area. Thinking of
blinds for bird watching, gazebo, portable toilets, keep low key.
Anderson commented that since the Pike Lake trail went in only
once have we had to go in and paint over graffiti. Our forester did
a great job of landscaping.
Innsbruck -Anderson stated this project is on hold until the
adjoining property is more fully developed.
Trevorrow asked if the soccer field was still in the .plan for that
park.
Anderson said tentatively yes, but we agreed, before the plan
would be finalized, that we would talk to the residents.
Trevorrow remembered that it would not be a full size soccer field
and wondered if there would be any way to make it full size.
Anderson said if there is room. Traffic also may be a problem.
Knuth asked if developer gave money toward park development.
Anderson said yes. The City owned most of the property. The
developer will give the City money when they do the final plat.
Hansen Hockey Rink -Anderson said we are rebuilding rinks with
permanent boards. It is treated wood and lasts longer -Good for
20 years or so. Hansen is the last park to be completed.
Driftwood Play Equipment -Anderson stated that if money comes
in from Wexford Heights the equipment will be put in this year.
The equipment at Driftwood is in bad shape.
Benke commented that at this time there is a mix of age groups in
Wexford Heights; some with small children and some approaching
grandparent age.
