April 1, 1992 Park Board Minutes <br />3 <br />Anderson said Spring Lake Park may bow out because of their financial <br />situation. Mounds View is also strapped. <br />Carlson asked if the task force is hearing any negative comments from <br />New Brighton seniors. <br />Rose said he doesn't hear much from the seniors about this. <br />Schultz said many miss the congregate dining. <br />D. Letter from Kay Haglund <br />Anderson read a letter from Kay Haglund which focused on a desire to <br />see new and different play equipment at Sunny Square Park. <br />Anderson commented that the equipment was still in good shape. <br />Helgeson commented there is only so much we can do. <br />Anderson stated he will write her a letter. <br />V. New Business <br />A. Discussion/Overview of Seniors Programs -Kelly Schultz <br />Schultz discussed the fee-supported programs for the seniors such as <br />trips line dancing, defensive driving, exercise class, bridge lesson, <br />kitchen band. Other programs are: bridge, special seminars, tax <br />assistance for low income, memoir writers, senior golf league, senior <br />hikers, bowling. There are two Senior Clubs in New Brighton. The <br />New Brighton Senior Club is 20 years old, and has a membership of <br />160, The Sojourners Club is 8 years old and has a membership of <br />about 80. <br />Schultz stated some things she would like to do are: Bocce ball, <br />tennis, and high adventure programs such as hot air balloon. <br />The Senior Prom is coming up also. Generally there are about 300 <br />seniors that attend. <br />Olson stated that she is amazed at how much the senior program has <br />grown. <br />Knuth asked what per cent of the seniors are we reaching. <br />Schultz said she didn't know but we have 650 on the mailing list; <br />which includes two clubs and a trip activities list. One club has <br />reached its maximum and there is a waiting list. <br />
