September 4, 1991 Park Board Minutes 4
Olson expressed concern about whether the shelter building would be able to
accommodate the skaters if the skating area was enlarged, it may draw more
people.
Anderson did not feel that was a concern.
A resident asked if the lighting currently on the free skating area could be left.
Anderson said yes. If we don't have to remove it, we won't. Another thing
we will be doing in the spring is resurfacing the trails.
Resident, Jackie Mullaney, commented that she hoped taller shrubs would not
be planted between the play area and the swings because then it would be hard
to see the kids.
A resident asked if there was a possibility of planting some wind breakers for
the tennis courts.
Anderson said that was a possibility.
Olson asked if Anderson had any phone calls regarding the tennis courts.
Anderson responded he had three calls; one inquiring how it would be funded
and the other two just wanting general information about the proposed plan.
Resident, Don Stevenson, stated he is a tennis player and he would like to see
that tennis courts stay at Hansen Park.
Anderson said that the sliding hill is hard to maintain because it is so steep.
We would like to make a more gentle slope. It would be a better sliding hill
and easier to maintain. We have one lighting pole left from the trail lighting
project so the hill could also.. be lighted.
Jackie Mullaney said the kids requested that the rock be left for a jump.
A resident asked if anything could be done about the gopher problem in the
park.
Anderson said that every spring and fall the maintenance crew puts poison
peanuts in their burrows.
A resident asked what configuration for the tennis courts will be chosen and
when will the work begin.
