June 5, 1991 Park Board Minutes 4
Anderson said that's what the Human Rights
Commission had asked.
Gunderman said Ramsey County is putting in a large
handicapped play area at Long Lake. We could use
that as a pilot.
Pat Tuma mentioned that Pike Lake has many
handicapped children mainstreamed, maybe Freedom
Park would be a better location.
Anderson said maybe we could talk to 916 - the
City shouldn't be the one picking up the total
cost.
Carlson asked if the Human Rights Commission had
requested the handicapped play area be at Hansen
Park.
Anderson said yes, but did not strongly recommend
that. Maybe it could be pushed back a year also.
Carlson said it is a tough year to do this.
Anderson said yes, but on the other hand,
everything we have done has been for the non-
handicapped.
Carlson said he doesn't disagree.
Gunderman said demographics show there are more
and more senior citizens, what can we offer them.
Anderson said we are doing some things for them
with trails at Vets and Meadowood. Trails go right
from the door into the park. Benches have been
also been added.
Gunderman asked the status of the bridge into Long
Lake Park.
Anderson said the high water has halted the work.
It will be put in when the weather permits. The
link by the boat ramp is in.
Ocel asked how the Golf Course fits in for the
CIP.
