May 1, 1991 Park Board Minutes
Anderson-said an issue before us is not only the
design of the park but if there should be a park
at all. If so, is the configuration ok.
Anderson said that what the Park Board said back
in 1988 was that we would wait until the
homeowners can have input. Do we want the park
and is it adequately sized and is the
configuration acceptable.
Johnson said he is in favor of a park in that
area.
2
Flodine commented that the other plan did not have
any off-site parking but this play and one parking
area for 19-20 parking spots.
Anderson said this park will be relatively
inexpensive to maintain. Don't see adding any
more staff hours. Previously we had talked about
having a tennis court in the park but now it will
be an open pavilion and a soccer field. The size
of the park is about 6 acres. That is adequate
for a park.
Gunderman asked what kind of play equipment would
go in.
Anderson said it would be geared for younger
children; similar to the equipment at Veterans
Park.
Anderson said a backstop could be put in but there
would be no infield.
Johnson asked if the space to the west was usable.
Anderson only as a trail. The trail will come out
on 27th Ave.
Kinzie inquired about how much say the residents
have in park decisions.
Anderson said the Park Board listens to what they
want. The Council makes the ultimate decision.
Rarely does the Park Board's desires conflict with
the resident's desires. Don't think anyone would
be opposed to the soccer field.
Johnson agreed, it is a nice green space.
Gunderman asked if the soccer field would be
accessible to other residents.
