Rights Commission to the Council, to the State and now she is back here, which is <br />a good place to be. She is interested in Parks because they are very close to <br />Hansen Park. Would like to be able to look at some park issues and get them <br />resolved. <br />Ron Meyer is 34 year resident. He and his wife have been married 48 years. He <br />grew up in Albert Lea, was in the Navy, spent 10 years in retail management, 20 <br />years as a traveling salesman, 10 years with Coach USA, have been on a couple <br />different commissions, President of Jaycees, Umpire for 20 years and on the board <br />of directors there, he and his wife are very active in dancing. They dance on <br />television; channel 6, dance in nursing homes and hospitals. His special interest is <br />seniors and he wants to see if he can make seniors lives better. <br />B. 2007 Chair -elections <br />Chair Heinrich asked for nominations for Chair. <br />Trevorrow nominated Jeanne Frischman as chair. There was a unanimous <br />affirmative vote. Jeanne Frischman will start her Chair duties in March, 2007. <br />C. Staff Report -Pat Tuma <br />Pat Tuma, Recreation Program Manager, gave a power paint presentation on why <br />recreation programs are important; youth obesity is a big concern. Tuma also <br />provided information on programs for which she is responsible, employees she <br />supervises, program management and programming goals. <br />The commissioners commented on: <br />• The possibility of adding another skate park in New Brighton, perhaps in <br />the Northwest Quadrant <br />• Concern of skate park at Freedom; more supervision needed. Bad <br />language, not good for young kids. <br />• Accentuate the trails, places to gather (for art and musical performances) <br />and to picnic, and add public art. <br />• Discussion re: LaCrosse is growing and if we have enough fields. Would <br />it be possible to add lights at Hidden Oaks. <br />Our relationship with High School coaches. Pat mentioned our <br />relationship is good -some caaches run summer camps and clinics with <br />us, i.e. basketball and soccer. <br />• Felt a list of expectations for all parks be posted. <br />• Request more supervision from Public Safety at park areas of concern <br />such as disc golf area at Hansen and skate park area at Freedom. <br />• Want to let seniors know they are not forgotten -new programs are being <br />planned. Want more senior fun, excitement and. happiness. <br />D. City Ordinance -~ alcohol in parks <br />Bob Jaskowiak commented that he had asked this item be on the agenda. In the <br />ordinance comparison with other communities, our ordinance is similar to some <br />and different than some. He would like to hear from others. Is there a problem we <br />need to address? If most people feel the ordinance is sufficient, we can move on. <br />- 2 - <br />
