I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
June 10, 1986

Public Hearings, continued

Norell asked what council's thoughts were regarding a sidewalk
on the southern portion of the project; Benke stated he would
ask the county and staff to do some follow-up on the detached
bike lanes, although it does not sound very promising. Benke
stated council needs to look at the options, address the ques-
tions, and make a decision.

Norell stated residents would like council to consider that the
only foot traffic on the southern portion is local, not school
traffic; Benke stated Irondale parents had asked how permanent the
walking standards are; if they are extended we may have a problem
and council will also have to take that into consideration.

Norell stated neighbors feel walking along Long Lake Road is not
the best place to be and that there are reasonable options.

Howard Waldoch, 1339 Long Lake Road, asked about the ownership of
the land on 14th; Leonard indicated it is private property.

Eugene Haas, 1144 Long Lake Road, indicated council stated a
majority of the issues are accomplished for the majority of the
people and then stated that the majority of the people south of
19th do not want sidewalks; and if the power lines go underground,
he asked that the impact of the placement of the boxes on lots be
considered; Benke stated that is why NSP was asked to go into
detail.

Schmidt asked Leonard when the County does the street on the east
side, if the power lines were to go in, would there be any greater
impact for trenching on the east side versus the west; Leonard
indicated that on the west side between the curb and the sidewalk
there will be six feet without a tree left standing, and on the
east side there will be a curb and there might be a few trees that
will need to be removed for underground cables.

Erickson feels it inappropriate not to put in a sidewalk and, with
regard to bike lanes, stated twelve feet would allow for a four
foot divider and an eight foot bike lane.

David Leichew, 1175 Pike Lake Circle, emphatically stated a side-
walk is needed all the way to 694 from a public safety point of
view, in light of the earlier report that some 5100 vehicles per
day travel Long Lake Road; stated there are a lot of kids in the
Pike Lake School area and parents need to drive because it's tough
to walk with a stroller on Long Lake Road.

Bob Fiegel. 1805 - 19th (west side), wanted to know where the sur-
rvey error was; Leonard explained the error.

Page Sixteen
