I

I

I

Council Minutes
April 9, 1985

Council Business, continued

Staff had nothing to add to the report.

Motion by Blomquist, seconded by Benke, to AUTHORIZE THE PURCHASE
OF A NEW 1985 Dodge t TON PICKUP FROM WHITE BEAR DODGE IN THE
AMOUNT OF $8,150, PLUS TRADE-IN, FOR THE SEWER DEPARTMENT.

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Staff stated that many alternatives have been looked into and have
found no simple solution to the problem and that staff keeps coming
back to the proposal submitted by the University of Minnesota. One
problem is that by not allowing the feeding of the ducks and geese
does not mean they are not going to come back. Staff is suggesting
that the proposal from Dr. Cooper (U of M) be followed.

Blomquist agreed that staff has done a good job in looking at other
alternatives and that it is a problem and feels working with
Dr. Cooper is the best way.

Harcus agreed and felt it should also be extended to the Golf Course
where there is also a problem. He added that Dr. Cooper had stated
that there would be no further cost to include the Golf Course but
if there was it would be very minimal.

Benke stated he had heard of a problem on Pike lake.

Winkels stated he had not been aware of a problem there.

Benke added he understood from someone at the public hearing last fall
there was a problem at Pike lake and asked staff to check it out.

Motion by Harcus, seco~ded by Blomquist, to ACCEPT DR. COOPERIS,
UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA, PROPOSAL TO ELIMINATE THE DUCKS AND GEESE
PROBLEMS ON lONG LAKE.

Janecek questioned if the person who is feeding the ducks and geese was
being fined or prosecuted-

Fridgen stated that she was tagged, pled guilty and paid a $25.00 fine.
The City did not come out very well in court due to her statement
"she was feeding her pets." Tags will continue to be given until
the feeding is stopped. He further added another problem is feeding
the ducks and geese from the bridge and he is looking into getting
a sign posted if the County would so allow.

Harcus asked if the current ordinances are sufficient for enforcement.

Fridgen stated that they are.

Page Four

Purchase Of Picku~
Truck - Sewer De~
Report 85-96

Duck & Goose
Problem On
long Lake
Report 85-97
