Counei 1 r~i nutes
June 25, 1985

Page Three

I

Vickie McCormick, 1398 - 25th Street N,W, (driveway and mailbox
is located on 14th Avenue N,W,), felt that a No Parking sign on
the west side of 14th Avenue will not resolve the situation, as
parking on one side of the street will cause all parking to move
to the other side of the street. McCormick cites the blockage of
driveways and mailboxes (hinderinq or prohibiting ~ai1 delivery)
as the issue and proposed the "Parking by Permit Only" (and a cer-
tain number of visitors) or "Parking for Residents Only" signs
would resolve the situation, McCormick briefly reviewed the City
Attorney's letter, and stated "Parking for Residents Only" is taking
place around the Moore Lake area in Fridley, and in several other areas,

Blomquist cited other areas where he had observed "Parking for
Residents Only" signs but was not sure how they were enforced,
believed the residents would have to call the police when an
unknown car was observed,

McCormick stated the residents were prepared to assist in the
enforcement,

I

Janecek expressed concern that if the streets had restricted
parking, the problem would be relocated to another neighborhood
street,

McCormick advised there is a parking lot on the school grounds,
which would be closer to the tennis courts, ball diamond, and
the school than neiqhborin~ streets.

Harcus stated he felt this situation is unique enough so that
it would not apply to other parking problems near parks and
other public buildings; suggested the resolution be redone to
include the details which make this problem unique.

Benke stated that one of the options was to post signs stating
"No Parking 5-10pm" which suggested evening congestion and asked
how that related to the problems with the mailboxes, and felt
there may be a similar problem on 12th Avenue N,W, by Hansen
Park and other parks where there are softball games.

McCormick stated that, because the tennis courts are used
during the day and that there are daytime activities in the
school, the parking problem is present all day and noted that
that option was the least desirable.

Benke asked if the primary problem was during the~summer;
McCarmi ck responded it was from Spri ng to Fall, and that there
were no problems during the regular school year,

I

Kathy Brager, 1500 - 25th Street N,W" commented that there
are parking problems during the winter months with community
activities/classes, noting there is a sign posted already
stating "No Parking During School Days,"

Paul Schwope, 1476 - 25th Street N,W" stated the drivers
leaving after games use driveways to back up and turn around
(safety problem where children live and play) and felt if
the people use the school's facilities, they should use the
school's parking lot,
