Counei 1 Hi nutes
June 25, 1985

I

Blomquist asked Proper is he was aware of other areas in the
city that could have similar situations which would result in
requests for "Parking for Resident Only" signs; Proper responded
that requests may come from Hansen Park and Sunnyside area resi-
dents,

Harcus noted that typically the parking lot is closer to the
diamond and streets are used for overflow parking.

Rudolph pointed out that there are only four houses on 25th
Street N.W. and that those four houses contain eight children
under the age of ten years old; there have been times when she
could not get her car out of the driveway; felt perhaps a
letter could go to teams whe.n they register asking them to use
the parking lots available; and co~mented that the residents on
25th St. ...:i11 take "No Parkinq" but ~'JOuld prefer "Resident Only
Parking."

Harcus -noted there is enough difference between 25th Street/14th
Avenue and other parts of the ci ty and, based on the Ci ty
Attorney's information, felt "Resident Only Parking" would be
justifi ed.

I

Motion by Blomquist, seconded by Janecek, to DIRECT STAFF TO
PREPARE A RESOLUTION DIRECTING RESIDENT PARKING ONLY ON 25TH
STREET N.W, AND 14TH AVENUE N.W, FOR APPROVAL AT THE JULY 9,
1985, CITY COUNCIL MEETING.

Motion by Benke, seconded by Harcus, to amend the motion to
ASK STAFF TO CONTACT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICIALS RESPONSIBLE
FOR PROGRAMrUNG AND REQUEST THEIR ASSISTANCE AND COOPERATION
IN SEEKING VOLUNTARY NON-USE OF THE STREET PARKING BY PARTI-
CIPANTS IN THEIR PROGRAMS.

'--

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Amendment Carried

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Main Motion Carried as Amended

Benke suggested to the residents that if the driveways are
blocked or if there any other inconveniences within the next
few weeks, the Police Department be summoned because that is
illegal, as is parking the wrong way on a street,

Proper indicated that signs could be installed a few days
after council approves the new resolution at the July 9th
council meeting,

I

For the residents in attendance, Harcus clarified that the
council agreed to "Residents Only Parkingll on both streets;
and stated that the IINo Parking During SChool Hours" would be
removed.

Page Four

.
::
