I

I

I

Council Minutes
November 13, 1984

Anderson had nothing further to add to the staff report.

Harcus was concerned because the fixtures would not be
vandal proof.

Anderson responded that the proposed lights would be more
vandal resistant than the hockey rink lights, noting that
as hockey rink lights need replacing~ he is adding hardware
cloth. Anderson stated further that half of the system
would be installed initially (spring of 1985) to see how it
works and then the second half in the fall of 1985.

Benke noted that this project has been on the CIP for five
or six years with a lot of support of the neighborhood.
Benke asked if there had been any recent contact with the
neighbors.

Anderson responded that although there hasn't been a meet-
ing for several years, he is aware that parents are inter-
ested in having the trail system lighted for the skaters.
Anderson explained that the lights will be intermittantly
spaced and will not illuminate large areas.

In response to Harcus' inquiry, Proper indicated that
although we would not be able to have street lights put in,
the maintenance cost for them would be $10 per month with
no installation charge.

Schmidt inquired about the $15,000 appropriation versus the
requested $2,940.

Anderson explained that the $2,940 is the the first half of
the lighting system; in addition there would be about $3,000
electrical work. Hansen Park is on a special service so we
would not be charged for the power the additional lights
would require.

Harcus commented that the only future cost would be for
vandalism. . Anderson agreed.

Motion by Schmidt, seconded by Benke, to AUTHORIZE THE
PURCHASE OF FIXTURES AND POLES FROM ELECTRICAL JOBBERS
EQUIPMENT, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,940.

3 Ayes - 1 NayeC Harcus), Motion Carried

Harcus inquired as to what the $7,500 would buy.
Anderson directed council to view the 35'x35' diagram
in the booklet~ which was part of the report.

Benke asked if the course could be modified to include
a wheelchair sports course.

Page Five

Lighting Fixtures -
Hansen Park
Report 84-277

Fitness Course -
Wells Fargo Game-
field Grant Proposal
Report 84-303
