Council Minutes
March 12, 1985

I

Harcus inquired about legislature concernin9 wine sales
in super markets. Sinda responded if it makes it through
the committee, it will make it; his understanding is that
it probably will not make it through the committee in the
Senate.

Benke indicated State A, D, and F would be the priority
items.

Council concurred.

Sinda had nothing to add to the council report.

Janecek felt Government Training Service did a good job
of recording the discussions; although not ready to be
publicized, it is a good working document.

I

Benke suggested after the Town Hall Meeting we can draft
a summary report for general information in the City News-
letter and/or the newspaper.

Schmidt feels Team Building process is worthy of publica-
tion, public awareness.

Harcus feels revenue sharing is one thing that is going to
have to be cut, along with a lot of other things, to handle
the national deficit, doesn't believe it is fair to take
along with the cut the Community Developmen~ programs and
other things without across-the-board cuts 1n defense and
other programs. Feels city's position should be that, if
revenue sharing is cut, other programs, including defense,
should take their fair share.

Benke stated that our allotment is $4 per capita so if we
lost that, we could probably find a way to make that up.
However, as a general principle, Benke agreed with Harcus;
feels we should not oppose the request but, for practical
reasons, should support the continuation without spending
a lot of time doing so.

Schmidt stated he wouldn't mind taking our share of the
cut if there was some formula for fairness.

Benke asked Sinda if his previous letters were sent to two
Senators and Congressman Vento; Sinda responded affirmatively.

I

Motion by Benke, seconded by Schmidt, to SEND A LETTER TO
ST. PAUL, WITH COPIES OF OUR PREVIOUS CORRESPONDENCE WITH
SENATORS DURENBERGER AND BOSCHWITZ AND TO CONGRESSMAN VENTO,
INDICATING WE HAVE ALREADY CORRESPONDED WITH OUR CONGRESS-
MEN IN WASHINGTON, D.C. ON THE GENERAL REVENUE SHARING ISSUE.

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Page Five

Team Building
Workshop Report
Report 85-68

General Revenue
Sharing Contin-
uation Request
Report 85-69
