I

I

I

Council Minutes
Apri 1 24, 1984

Sinda responded that we could publish our public
hearings in a daily newspaper, in addition to the
New Brighton Bulletin, which would cost additional
monies.

Benke had no practical objection to changing the
meeting night to Monday, however, there would be a
lot of other schedules that would have to be
adjusted according. The change would be a viable
option to consider.

Blomquist felt that the additional week would be
something that people would have to deal with.

Benke stated that the delay would most often be two
weeks, and sometimes three weeks, because of the
time frame.

4 Ayes - 1 Nay (Blomquist), Motion Carried

Krueger had nothing to add to the staff report con-
cerning the second reading of the definition of
screening ordinance amendment.

Motion by Harcus, seconded by Janecek~ to WAIVE THE
READING~ HOLD THE SECOND READING, ADOPT, AND ORDER
PUBLICATION OF AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER I I,
SECTION 2~257 OF THE NEW BRIGHTON ZONING CODE PER-
TAINING TO A DEFINITION OF SCREENING.

5 Ayes- 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Sinda had nothing to add to the consideration of
City's membership in the Municipal Legislative
Commission.

Benke spoke in opposition to the City's membership
in this commission citing that this would be the
sixth organization of which the City would be a
member, stating further that most of the organiza-
tions to which we do belong use taxpayers' money
to lobby for the taxpayers (and in many cases, the
purposes is to get more tax money). We need to
organize and educate before legislative sessions
when the press of time is less critical. Questioned
the effectiveness of an $8.500 investment,' the City's
annual membership fee.

Schmidt also expressed opposition, stating we must
prioritize our goals and where our dollars will be
spent.

Page Eight

Ordinance Amendment -
Definition of Screening,
Second Reading
Report 84-111
Ordinance 523

Membership.
