<br />Schmidt reported that at the December meeting, he thought
<br />we were going to be through discussing new proposals for
<br />changing the system, but after the December meeting we
<br />received the attention of Group W. They went back to New
<br />York and seriously considered whether or not they would
<br />build here. On January 18, 1984 there will be a Special
<br />Meeting at which time Group W will be coming in with a
<br />proposal that will modify the system they had agreed to
<br />build; would be a dual cable, but will integrate with
<br />the institutional networks, so there will be some down-
<br />grading of the system and variation that was initially
<br />proposed. Understands there will be a total change to
<br />the rate struction modifying channel configuration for
<br />the various tiers. They will also be proposing to change
<br />the construction schedule. It will be almost like going
<br />back to square one and looking at a new franchise for
<br />cable.

<br />We III hear what Group W is goi ng to propose, providi ng we
<br />receive documentation by Friday, January 13, 1984. All
<br />are invited to the meeting on the 18th.

<br />Benke asked if there was a need for 105 channels. Schmidt
<br />responded "not right now, but there may be in the future.1I
<br />Schmidt further stated that somebody should be contacting
<br />Continental - do we even want to go with Group W? Initial
<br />proposal (before dual) scheduled New Brighton and Roseville
<br />to be built before 1983. There's no reason for the south
<br />end to be delayed, Rosevi11e is still not done. Now Group
<br />W is proposing to do before November, 1984.
<br />
<br />Harcus stated that the citizens want cable and they want it
<br />fast. Recommended that the Committee contact Continental.
<br />
<br />Schmidt stated that after the meeting theylll know if
<br />there is enough interest to make concessions.
<br />
<br />Blomquist mentioned that also on January 18, 1984 the
<br />Ramsey County League will be holding their meeting in
<br />the Roseville Court House at 7:30 p.m. Their topic will
<br />be Ramsey County Court System with a report from the
<br />Ramsey COunty staff regarding recommendations to the
<br />board. Representatives from the municipalities and the
<br />court system will be present. If you have any concerns
<br />you would like to pass on, let me know.
<br />
<br />Benke mentioned that on January 31,1984 there will be
<br />a meeting in St. Louis Park for the Association of
<br />Metropolitan Municipalities regarding adopting legisla-
<br />tive policies. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m.
