I

I

I

City of New Brighton
May 24, 1983

Page Three

Council Business

Mr. Mark Anderson representing the New Brighton Stockyard Days
Stockyard Days, Inc., was present to review Report #83-136
the plans for this year's Stockyard Days Celebration.
Mr. Anderson noted that they had decided not to
have the amusement rides at Veteran's Park, and
therefore were looking in the vicinity of the
maintenance building - Hanson Park area as a possible
location for the Fire Department Waterball Tournament.

Councilmember Schmidt stated he wished to compliment
Stockyard Days, Inc. and staff for the presentation
as this was by far the most complete report that has
been reviewed by the City Council. Councilmember
Schmidt felt that the plans should be approved.

Councilmember Blomquist stated that he concurred in
that Stockyard Days, Inc. and City staff should be
complimented and further that he also agreed with the
concern expressed by staff regarding the City Hall
area.

Councilmember Janecek stated that she agreed the materials
submitted were complete and that the activities should be
approved. Councilmember Janecek also stated that she felt
staff should be directed to keep track of expenses and
report back to the City Council.

Mayor Harcus stated that he agreed and that he also had
a concern for the amount of City assistance provided and
that he would like staff to monitor this effort. Mayor
Harcus stated that he did not understand the need for
overtime in the Parks Department in conjunction with the
celebration.

Maurice Anderson, Director of Parks and Rec, stated that
there would be a need during the celebration for people
to do the various activities that inevitably will happen.
Mr. Anderson stated that there will be a need for some-
body who has access to various towels and supplies and
that invariably at activities such as this problems will
occur.

Motion by Harcus, seconded by Benke to:

1. To review and approve the plans for the Stockyards
Days Celebration June 24-26, 1983, with City
assistance provided, subject to receipt of in-
surance coverage naming the City as a Named
Insured, and the provision by the sponsoring
organizations of adequate volunteerism to assist
City Personnel
